Keilah and family, this note of condolence is meant to be from those members of the North End Crew who are still around, reflecting on our 'Glory Days'. It’s with genuine heartfelt sadness from Bobby, Gary, Terry, Donnie, and Kevin that we will be sadly missing Darren. And we are deeply sorry for your loss.
Darren was a proud and beloved member of a somewhat unique social club known as “The North End Crew” or “The North End Gang” to some and “The North End Brew-Crew” to many others.
We were a brotherhood of close, lifelong friends. Our collective aim was simple: Enjoy and cherish a boyhood of mischief and merriment, baseball and bruises. And that’s what we did, from basketball in the snow in Darren’s driveway to whiffle ball in his yard come springtime; raising hell on Halloween to baseball at Bishop’s field; from Turkey Bowl football on Thanksgiving to playing pool in the Kimball’s basement.
It would be a mistake to think of 'our' members of The Crew as the first and the last North End Crew. We’re part of a fraternity of young men growing up in Ballston Spa, north of the Kayaderosseras Creek (our swimming hole, the Pulp Mill). Some of us, like Darren, were early members who followed closely in the footsteps of older brothers who were charter members of their generation’s “North End Crew”.
As in many cases, childhood friendships endure even when time intervenes, we become separated by life, our families, new friends and job commitments. Through all of that our Crew remained friends for life.
Our brother Darren (affectionately dubbed Specks O’Keefe when we were up to no good), along with the other members of The Crew who have gone on before him, are and will remain in our hearts and minds. They will be kept alive through fond memories, as long as there is someone who can recall a Friday night spent at “The Shack”—our clubhouse--as a member or a guest of The Crew.
It’s good to recall those great memories growing up together. It’s sad that it takes an event like the passing of a lifelong buddy to remind us of those memories buried in time but never to be forgotten.
As for you Darren, we’re all hoping you farewell in the afterlife. Say “Hi” to Bozzy, Pat, Ralph, Joe (and the North End dog crew Teddy, Sparky, Inky and Hoppy) and any of the others who preceded you.

Keilah and family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Please accept my sympathy. Losing a loved one is so painful.
I will miss running into Darren in Hannaford. He always had that great laugh. We remained friends, even though.
Thank you for contacting Amy. I cried when I found out.
My condolences,
Nancy
