Michael died at home on Sunday, November 7, 2010.
He was born in Syracuse, NY. He was the son of the late George and Mary Moran Van Der Mark.
Michael served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He was first president of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 103 of Central New York
He worked for Syracuse VA Hospital, Amtrak and Conrail.
Michael was a member of the Native American Club. He was a Native American Crafter for the past 8 years. He and his wife owned Bears Rib Native Crafts in Corinth.
Survivors include his wife Kathleen Ebert Van Der Mark , his sons: Shane (Marilyn) Van Der Mark of PA, Shad (Christine Billington) Van Der Mark of Liverpool, NY, Shawn Van Der Mark of Syracuse, NY; his daughters: Shannon (Nelson) DaMato of Las Vegas, NV, Karrie (Brian) Damm of Baldwinsville, NY, his brother: Daniel Van Der Mark of Florida; his brother in law Lee (Mary) Ebert and sister in law Arleen Kelley, both of Ballston Spa, his Grandchildren, Nathan Dilling; Gabrielle Dilling; Devon DaMato; Kaylee Damm; Merrick Van Der Mark; Tyler Van Der Mark; Evan Van Der Mark; many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Friday, November 12, 2010 from 11:00AM to 1:00PM followed by services at 1:00 PM at Mevec Funeral Home, 224 Milton Avenue, Ballston Spa.
Committal service with full military honors will follow at Gerald B.H. Solomon-Saratoga National Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Dr. Edward Liebers, Dr Christopher Dolinsky and the staff of Community Hospice for their excellent care of Michael.
