Jim died at home on Tuesday, August 3, 2010.
He was born in Chicago, IL. He was the son of the late Victor and Irene LePage Freitas.
Anyone who knew Jim knew of his passion for re-enactment, especially in his role as flag bearer for the French Marines during the period of the French Indian War. Jim also carried flags in local parades and gave many hours to the local Boy Scouts in learning the traditions of the military flags. He was also passionate about learning all there was about his French- Canadian ancestry.
Jim was a local contractor for many years and later worked at Maplewood Manor, Ballston Spa
Jim was a member of Member of the (BUMA), Les Troupes De La Pointe A La Chevelure
He was a former member of Ballston Spa Elks Lodge #2619
He was predeceased by his wife Virginia W. Freitas who died on November 30, 2005.
Jim was fortunate to find love a second time with his companion Mary Ann Schweikert of Saratoga Springs.
Survivors include his brother: Robert Freitas of Leicester, MA, his nieces Theresa Freitas Battiato of Orangeburg, Justine Freitas of Astoria, and Casey Freitas of Bennington, VT, his nephews Paul Freitas of Monroe NJ, and Joseph Freitas of Oklahoma City, OK. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Mary McCabe of Ravena, of whom he was very close to. Visitation will be on Saturday August 21, 2010 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM followed by services at 12:00 PM at Mevec Funeral Home, 224 Milton Avenue, Ballston Spa, with a lunch time reception for family and friends to follow.
