Obituary of Bernard J. Doescher
Please share a memory of Bernard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Town of Wilton, NY
Bernard J. Doescher
Bernard J. Doescher, 61 passed away peacefully on Friday, November 24th, 2023, at home. A lifelong resident of Wilton, NY, Bernie graduated from South Glens Falls Senior High school in 1980, where he attended Saratoga County BOCES, specializing in HVAC.
Bernie had a passion for cooking and worked for many years at the Wishing Well Restaurant where he met Sandy, the love of his life. He worked at the Mount McGregor Correctional Facility as a power plant operator retiring from the facility shortly before it closed, and then for the Lake George Steamboat company as an engineer room operator on the Lac du Saint Sacrement.
Bernie was a musician like his father. He could sit down at a piano and get any group singing along with his tunes. He was also a self-taught mechanic, and he could fix anything, with or without the proper tools or parts! His favorite pastimes were fishing when he was younger, playing ping pong, all types of music, snowmobiling in the winter and his lifelong love of radio contests where he was consistently winning concert tickets, gift cards, a canoe, and even once won a car for his brother Matt.
Bernie had a heart of gold and was loved by all. He never failed to lend a hand to those who needed it the most. His proudest moments were meeting and marrying his wife Sandy, and when his daughter Cassidy was born. Bernie adored Cassidy and loved being a dad. Bernie and Sandy were married in 1991 and both shared their love of cooking. They often catered large events together over the years that drew in crowds from far and wide, where their food was a focal point. Sandy remained a constant partner for him through life's ups and downs.
He is predeceased by his parents, Bernard and Kathleen Doescher and sister Louise Lauro.
He is survived by his wife Sandy and daughter Cassidy, sister Anne (Bud) Gardner, brothers, Matt (Wendy) Doescher and Paul (Karen) Doescher and several nieces and nephews.
In Lieu of flowers, a contribution in Bernie's memory may be made to the South High Marathon Dance.
Relatives and friends are invited to call from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at the Wilton Funeral home, 395 Ballard Rd Wilton, NY 12831 on Saturday, December 2, 2023.
