Obituary of John N. Caputo

John N Caputo "The Dream" of Ballston Spa passed away on October 11, 2023, at 81. He was born on July 11, 1942, to the late Nicholas and Mary Baia Caputo. He was a 1960 graduate of Ballston Spa High School. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy in June of 1962 and was stationed aboard the USS Telfair as a Seaman and boat Coxswain. After his tour, John came back to the area and worked as a pipefitter and welder at Knolls Atomic Power Plant in West Milton, GE Silicone in Waterford and Nine Mile II nuclear power plant in Oswego NY. John would then go on to start his own business, Caputo Plumbing & Heating. He was an avid golfer and member of Ballston Spa Country Club. Music was his lifelong passion as he excelled at playing many instruments, but the trumpet was his true love. He picked up the trumpet at the age of 12 and continued playing throughout his life. He played wicked jazz alongside his great friends, Richie Daggs and Jack Rogers all across the area and northeast. He was a very proud and devoted grandfather. He is survived by his sister Rosemarie Caputo Lynett (Michael) of Saratoga Springs, three daughters, Gina Nielsen (Matthew) of Glenville, Jacqueline Orzell (John) of Syracuse, Joanna Hart (Steven) of Round Lake, former wife of 23 years, Dawn Mitchell, His beloved nine grandchildren: Andrew, Aden & Mitchell Orzell, Annika & Nicholas Nielsen, Darienne & Justin Hickey, Sophia & Maria Hart and his favorite nieces and nephews: Michele, Mark, David & Marianne Lynett and great niece Crystal Junior, Jacey (Potenza) Ruane, great nephews Jarrid & Nicholas Lynett, Calling hours will be Monday October 16th from 4-7 pm at Mevec Funeral Home in Ballston Spa. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 9:30 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ballston Spa on Tuesday October 17th. Burial at Saratoga National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in memory of John Caputo to Lifeworks Community Action Food Pantry, 39 Bath St. Ballston Spa or to the Ballston Spa High School Music Department checks c/o Joanna Hart.
