Lawrence died at Gateway House of Peace on Monday, July 4, 2016 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Schenectady, NY. He was the son of the late Lawrence A. and Marie Leonard Morse.
He was a machinist at International Paper, Corinth, NY.
Lawrence joined Union Fire Company #2 - September 1, 1948 (68 Years of Service)
He was 2nd Assistant Foreman, Union Fire Company #2 - 1952, 1953, 1st Assistant Foreman, Union Fire Company #2 – 1954, Foreman, Union Fire Company #2 - 1955, 1956, 1957
2nd Assistant Chief, Ballston Spa Fire Department – 1958, 1st Assistant Chief, Ballston Spa Fire Department - 1960, 1962, Fire Chief, Ballston Spa Fire Department - 1961, 1963, 1975, 1976, Fire Marshall, Ballston Spa Fire Department - 1965, 1967, 1974, 1980, 1981
50 Year Member, Union Fire Company #2 – 1998
Along with the many years of service at Union Fire Co. he enjoyed his coffee time with the guys each morning. Larry was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved the outdoors. At any time of the day you could see Larry walking in the Village scratching one of his lottery tickets.
Larry was raised and lived in the Village of Ballston Spa and thoroughly enjoyed his community. He was a lifelong participant of the Saratoga County Fair. In prior years Larry was active with the Democratic Party. Larry was a lifelong communicant of St. Mary’s Church.
He also volunteered for the Community Emergency Corps. To many members of his immediate family, he was referred to as “Sonny”.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Mary Lee Brunell and Anne Henry.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years Mildred R. Morse, his children Dale (Annette) Seery, Patrick Morse, Debra (Michael) Bashore, Susan Cinella, Nancy (Vincent) Monaco and Rebecca (Steven) Antolick, 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and Poppy’s right hand man Shawn Morse
Services will be on Friday, July 8, 2016 at 8:00 am at Mevec Funeral Home, 224 Milton Avenue, Ballston Spa followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am at St. Mary's Church, 167 Milton Avenue, Ballston Spa.
Committal service will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery
Calling hours will be Thursday, July 7 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM at Mevec Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Union Fire Company #2, P.O. Box 145, Ballston Spa, NY 12020 or Gateway House of Peace, 479 Rowland Street, Ballston Spa, NY 12020.
