Phyllis E. Chapman Phillips
74
Phyllis Eileen Chapman Phillips' garden will continue to grow in heaven as she passed on March 30th, 2013 at her home in Wilton. Phyllis would not want her battle with death to be attributed to cancer (a battle she fought for 15 + years), but rather let it be known that she died when she wanted to and from the result of "being stubborn, often refusing to listen to doctor's orders, eating hard candy and doing Word Search puzzles."
A longtime resident of Fortsville and Wilton, Phyllis had 74 wonderful years of traveling, planting flowers, puttering around the house and eating maple covered donuts.
Born on November 26, 1938 in Fortsville, NY, Phyllis (the Chief or Aunt Phyl to most) graduated from South Glens Falls High and worked at the Queensbury Hotel in the 60's before meeting her husband Robert Phillips. The story passed on by Robert was as follows- "I walked into the Pink Step In and saw this beautiful woman at the other end of the bar. I told my friend that someday I would marry that gal." As Bob elaborated through the years with a smirk, "I put shoes on her feet and swept her off her feet!" The running joke in the family of a country bumpkin being swept off her feet by her knight in shining armor is a lasting loving memory of a wonderful couple. Bob and Phyllis moved to California in the late 60's before returning to New York in 1989. Bob passed in 2008.
Phyllis loved to travel and will now travel eternally with Bob stopping at far off diners, dirt covered roads beautiful lake side views.
Phyllis leaves two wonderful daughters and their spouses to carry on her love of life- Terri Phillips - Mierkey & Joe Mierkey and Tracey Phillips Kubis & Richard Kubis. She also has three step sons, Mike, David and Jamie Phillips.
Phyllis also enjoyed many memories with her many nieces and nephews; Gary & Teresa Chapman, Candy (Chapman) & Marvin Steiding, Larry & Angela Chapman, Jeff & Susan Chapman, as well as her great nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be Wednesday April 3, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Griswold Cemetery, Route 9 Town of Moreau. Arrangements are by Wilton Funeral Home
