He was the son of the late William E. and Emily Clapton Hewitt. He served in the Air Force during World War II. William worked as an Air Traffic Controller for 36 years atAlbanyCountyAirport,Albany,NY. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, Ballston Spa. He taught religious education at St. Mary's School William was a Deacon for the Albany Roman Catholic Diocese for 20 years, He was known for the Blessing of the Animals inCongressPark,Saratoga SpringHe was Member of the former Knights of Columbus, Ballston Spa He was active member of Scouting for 50 years.William was theVillageofBallston Spa Santa Clausfor many years. He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years Anna May Hewitt who died onMarch 12, 1997, his son Edward Hewitt and his brother, Edward G. Hewitt. Survivors include his daughters: Mary Lee (George) Blakeslee, JoAnn (Chris) Hauprich, Patricia (Stephen) Jurcsak, Paula (Gus) Slade, Laurie (Tim) Ferradino, his sons: William C. (Janice) Hewitt, Jr., Francis (Patricia) Hewitt, Joseph (Francine) Hewitt,His grandchildren, Allison Blakeslee; Christopher Hewitt; Lisa Hewitt; Ashley Hauprich; Brian Hauprich; Mary Rose Hauprich; Justin Jurcsak; Lauren Jurcsak; Todd Slade; Dana (Carl) Abbey; Eric Slade; William C. Hewitt, III; Michael J. Hewitt; Sam Matthew Hewitt; Julie Crystal Hewitt; Alyssa Hewitt; Daniel Hewitt; Monica Hewitt; Elizabeth Hewitt; Alan Hewitt; Kassandra Ferradino; Brandon Ferradino; great granddaughters, Ava Boulerice; Sophia Jurcsak.Calling hours will be Thursday, May 10 from5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Mevec Funeral Home Services will be onFriday, May 11, 2012 at 8:30 AM at Mevec Funeral Home,224 Milton Avenue, Ballston Spa followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM at St. Mary's Church,167 Milton Avenue, Committal service with military honors will follow at BallstonSpaCemetery.
