Obituary of Shirley R. Olmstead

WILTON - Shirley R. Olmstead, 76, of Northern Pines Road, passed away unexpectedly Monday afternoon, Jan. 2, 2012 at Albany Medical Center. Born Nov. 17, 1935 in Albany, she was the daughter of John L. and Helen (Rolfe) Boyser. Shirley worked as a Life Insurance underwriter for Combined Life Insurance Co. in Albany for 23 years. She moved to Wilton in 1991. She was very proud of her Irish heritage and was a past member of Galloway Gaelic Pipes and Drums in Glens Falls, where she played tenor drum. She enjoyed participating in parades and Scottish Games. She enjoyed going to garage sales, but most of all, Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family. Shirley was a member of the V.F.W. Post No. 420 Auxiliary, Saratoga Springs, the Eagles Club, Saratoga Springs and the Irish Northern Aide of Albany. She was predeceased by her parents, a grandson, Chad Louis; an infant sister, Eileen Boyser, and a brother, Robert Boyser. Survivors include her three daughters, Donna Krug and her husband, Joe, of Rensselaer, Diane Witbeck of Rensselaer and Jackie Killeen and her husband, Christopher, of Nassau; four grandchildren, Frank John Brothers, Joseph Hallenbeck, Brian Hallenbeck, Nicole Hallenbeck; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; a sister Marlene Crowley of Albany, and one brother Edward Boyser adn his wife, Carol, of Virginia Beach, Va.; her former husband, Tom Olmstead of Porter Corners; three nieces, two nephews and several cousins. Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, at Wilton Funeral Home Inc., 395 Ballard Road, Wilton. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home with the Rev. Flossie Bates, officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Shirley's memory may be directed to the Wilton Emergency Squad, 1 Harran Lane, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
