George Jeffrey Wood
(February 26, 1954 – June 4, 2026)
George Jeffrey Wood, "Apostle Jeff", 72 years old, of Gansevoort, New York, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June 4, 2026, surrounded by his loving family who rejoice that the pain of his absence from this earth was immediately superseded by his joyous welcome into God's perfect heaven.
Born on February 26, 1954, in Schenectady, New York, he was the only son of the late George W. Wood and the late Leona A. (Bordeau) Wood. He was raised in the town of West Charlton and was a graduate of Galway Central School class of 1972.
He was the beloved husband and best friend of Patricia A. (Quinlan) Wood whom he met in kindergarten. They were married at the Galway United Methodist Church on July 16, 1977, with his father serving as best man. They rode away from the reception on a motorcycle to honeymoon in Lancaster County, PA.
While a high school freshman Apostle Jeff served as class Vice President and then as President for the remaining three years. He was active in chorus, Chansonettes and Troubadours, and sports. He played varsity soccer for all four years, going undefeated in the league for one year and winning sectionals two years later. He played three years on the varsity basketball team, and as a senior he was President of the Varsity Club. One of Jeff's fondest school memories was having class adviser, Mr. Ed Gorga, cheering the class of '72 on to all four years of victory in the annual Moving Up Day field events.
Apostle Jeff began working with his father on weekends in the family business, George W. Wood and Son Water Wells at the age of thirteen. In 1988 he opened his own business, JP Wood Water Wells, while continuing to assist his father as needed until his father's unexpected death in 1990. He then worked fulfilling all contracts for both businesses before shutting done permanently in 1992 to become a full-time pastor.
As a young newlywed Apostle Jeff purchased vacant land, cleared the trees himself, drilled the water well and began building a home which he designed. He built the entire structure – pouring cement, laying up the block foundation, framing, electrical, plumbing, setting the roof rafters, roofing, siding and all interior work. Moving in day was September 20, 1980.
Apostle Jeff had a radical conversion and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, and on June 19, 1983, he was water baptized in his Grandmother Jean Wood's cow pond. He initially attended Barkersville Church and was later a part of two church plants before moving to the South Glens Falls area to establish Abiding Life Christian Church on March 30, 1997. Apostle Jeff's passion was to daily draw closer to Jesus and to continuously encourage, equip and minister to all who were seriously seeking the Lord. He cherished all opportunities to share God's Word with the lost. His legacy will continue in the lives of all he ministered to as well as through the book he wrote, Believers Shall Preach, Teach, Heal and Deliver.
Apostle Jeff loved his family dearly and was always available to them. He had an amazing smile and a great laugh that he used often. He had seemingly unlimited stories to share with all who wanted to listen.
He had a wide range of talents and interests, including but not limited to: the Civil War and Abraham Lincoln, painting, welding, target shooting, hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, and above all, motorcycles. He had customized both his Harley -Davidson as well as his Honda Goldwing. One great adventure with his son, Sam, was driving across the country to California in the summer of 2022.
Apostle Jeff is survived by his wife, Patricia A. (Quinlan) Wood. He was a great family man and a loving father to his children: Pastor Joshua Wood, Alissa Wood, Samuel (Ashley) Wood and Jonathan (Emily) Wood as well as his grandson, Henry Jeffrey Levi Wood. He is also survived by his two sisters: Susan (George) Kimball and Candace (Phil) Terry; his parents-in-law, Charles L. & Ruth Quinlan; brothers-in-law Charles R. Quinlan, and Mark (Ann) Quinlan; sisters-in-law Sandra (Michael) Meilunas, Cynthia Hoffman, Theresa (Jeffrey) Kozlowski, Aimee (Raymond) May, Roxanne (Perry) Lautzenhiser and Wendy (Jonathan Edmans) VanEpps. He was also predeceased by two brothers-in-law, Dana Hoffman and Charles VanEpps. He leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews.
