Gilbert L. Bliss

Gilbert L. Bliss passed away on Saturday March 14,2026 at Ellis Hospital with family members by his side.

Gilbert was born on July 28,1940 to the late Clyde Bliss and Florence (Yawkler) Bliss. Gilbert Graduated from Burnt Hills- Ballston Lake High school and Nashville Auto Diesel College in Tennessee. Gilbert worked for several trucking companies, Con-dec of Niskayuna, Fort Edward Express and at the Saratoga County Building and Grounds Department and a Security Guard at the Saratoga Harness Track.

During that time Gilbert also enlisted in the New York Army National Guard where he served for 25 years and retired as a Major. Gilbert was also one of the Town of Charlton Constables for 17 years and was elected as Charlton Highway Superintendent.

Gilbert was a member of the Charlton freehold Presbyterian Church and was serving on the Board of Trustees at the time of his death. He enjoyed attending church functions and helping to cook many church dinners.

Gil was a member of the Charlton and Milton Granges for over 70 years. He joined the BPOE Elks Lodge #2619 and served as exalted ruler at one point. He was also a member of the American Legion.

Gilbert loved to fish, hunt, make to-do lists, talk to people and play golf. He worked and played golf at the Galway Golf course.

Gilbert spent his whole life loving and protecting his family.

Gilbert is predeceased by his daughter Karyn Bliss and his brother Alan (Butch) Bliss.

Gil is survived by his wife of 62 years Phyllis (Rumley) Bliss, his son Brian (Laura) Bliss, his grandchildren Gillian Bliss and Cody (Hannah) Reed, his three-year-old great grandchildren Maple and Winry Reed, his sister Carol Jean Kieft. Also survived by many sisters and brothers-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Viewing hours will be on Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. With a service at 12:30 pm led by Pastor Brian Parsons at Mevec Funeral Home, 224 Milton Ave, Ballston Spa, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions can be made to the Charlton Freehold Presbyterian Church, 768 Charlton Rd, Charlton, NY 12019
