Obituary of Dolores "Dee" Rutkowski

Saratoga Springs, NY Dolores "Dee" Rutkowski, age 98, died Monday, June 30, 2025. She was born on January 16, 1927, in Amsterdam, NY. She is the daughter of the late Thomas and Gertrude (Belanger) Valerio. Dee graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School, Amsterdam Class of 1944. She was a graduate of Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY Class of 1948. Dee was employed by the New York State Dept. of Health, Div. of Labs and Research, Albany, NY from 1948 to 1952. She attended post-graduate classes at the College of St. Rose and Siena College where Dee met her future husband, Leo Rutkowski. They were married in 1952, and moved to Ballston Spa, NY. Dee was a Substitute Teacher at Ballston Spa Central Schools for a few years before teaching at St. Mary's School in Ballston Spa for 13 Years. She was a counselor for Saratoga County Employment and Training Administration in Ballston Spa, retiring in 1978. She was President of the Ballston Spa Girl Scouts Council, Ballston Spa Junior Women's Club, St. Mary's Mothers Club and served on the Founding Board of Directors of Area Center for Teens, now BACC. She is predeceased by her husband Leo Rutkowski. Dee is survived by her son, Mark (Gail) Rutkowski, her daughters, Margaret (Kevin) Slade, Anne (Tom) Payne, her five grandchildren, Kathryn Rutkowski, Alison Rutkowski, Ian (Corinne) Slade, Thomas and Matthew Payne. Calling hours will be Thursday July 3, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Mevec Funeral Home, 224 Milton Avenue, Ballston Spa followed by a Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Church, 167 Milton Avenue. Burial will follow at Gerald B.H. Solomon-Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Woodlawn Commons for their compassionate care and support over the last two years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Wesley Community Nursing Scholarship Fund at www.thewesleycommunity.org
