Northumberland, NY John (Jack) Ambrose Lawrence, loving patriarch of many, ended his struggle in the loving arms of his family Sunday at Saratoga Hospital. Jack was a lifelong resident of Ballston Spa, where so many knew his kind face. His home and table were always open to anyone in need. He was the son of the late Ambrose and Zillah Butterfield Lawrence. Jack received a Purple Heart in the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion Post #234. Jack volunteered as a ceremonial rifle honor guard at the monthly Saratoga County Veterans Ceremony. He was actively involved with the American Red Cross Blood Drives and was an avid Red Sox fan. Tragedy befell the family 4 years ago when Jack and Lois's son John Joseph Lawrence lost his battle with cancer and John's daughter Kristy Lawrence passed away in a car accident shortly thereafter. Jack's sister Bessie Agnew, another granddaughter Stephanie Lawrence and daughter-in-law Virginia Lawrence also predeceased Jack. Jack is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lois; his daughters Kathy (Michael) Stanko; Patricia Beth (Louis) Jenison; Barbara Lawrence Jenison; and Angela Freeman; his brothers Bob (Joan) Lawrence and Clifford (Carol) Lawrence; his sisters Betty (Jack) Hodgson and Gail (Larry) Burkey; a daughter-in-law Gaitanne Lawrence; brother-in-law Ronald Agnew; 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and countless honorary family members A celebration of Jack's life will be held Wednesday May 5, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the American Legion Post #234, 23 Pleasant Street, Ballston Spa.
