Dateline: Ballston Spa, NY Dr. George R. Tracy 92 George died with his loving family by his side at Wesley Health Care Center on December 15, 2016. He was born in Saratoga Springs, NY. He was the son of the late George and Helen Landry Tracy. George was a World War II veteran. He was drafted at age 18. George trained in the Replacement Infantry in South Carolina. He was in the Army Specialist Training Program and the 67th Signal Repair Company of the Signal Corps as a radio repairman. His first overseas service was in France. Then at the end of the war in Europe, he was transferred by way of the Panama Canal to the Philippines for the staging for the invasion of Japan. He was among the first troops in the occupation of Japan. He was awarded 6 medals for his service, American Theater of Operation, European Theater of Operation, Asiatic/ Pacific Theater of Operation, Philippine Liberation Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal. George was a graduate of Union College and the Columbia University School of Optometry in 1950. He married Joyce Wrighter on March 24, 1951. He was a lifelong resident of Ballston Spa. George was an optometrist for 43 years in Ballston Spa. George was President of the Lions Club the year the Ballston Spa Village Pool was built and opened. He was a member of the Ballston Spa Library Board for several years. George was a member of the American Legion State Post #1 Albany, NY. He was an avid skier. George served on the Ski Patrol. He was actively skiing until age 85 at which time he had to retire due to a skiing accident on a double black diamond trail. He was predeceased by his sister Jean Marie Tracy and his wife Joyce Tracy who died on January 28, 2000. Survivors include his children Dr. Sherrill Tracy and husband Dr. Donald Kernan of Shelburne, NH, Lynn Tracy of Queensbury, Mark Tracy of Kokomo, IN, and Jill Sutter and husband Randy Sutter of Montgomery, NY, his grandchildren, Kimberly Kernan Reid and husband Rob Reid, Zachary Kernan and wife Dr. Ashley Kernan, Josh Kernan, Katie Kernan Weathers and husband Dan Weathers, Ben Tracy, Peyton Tracy, Corey Sutter, Brynn Sutter, Jake Sutter, his great grandchildren Henry Reid, Warner Reid and Kasey Kernan Graveside services with military honors will be on Monday, December 19, 2016 at 11:00 am at Ballston Spa Cemetery, Ballston Avenue, Ballston Spa.
