Obituary of Ann Marie Schoebel

Please share a memory of Ann Marie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ballston Spa, NY Ann Marie Dunn Schoebel was born in Syracuse, NY on March 26, 1927, and died on June 30, 2015. She graduated from Nottingham High School one year early, in 1944. She graduated from Syracuse University in 1948 with a BA in Music Education and earned Masters' degrees from Syracuse University in Music Education and School Counseling. Ann Marie worked as a junior high music teacher in Jamestown, NY for several years but due to vocal stress and illnesses, changed careers and became a school counselor working in both the Syracuse and Albany areas. She married John Schoebel in 1964, where they lived in Scotia, NY for 10 years. In 1975 they moved to Ballston Spa, purchasing the historic Rose Hill property. There they ran Rose Hill Enterprises including a cheese cake bakery, gift shop and, briefly, a garden center. Ann Marie returned to education in the 1980s, first as school counselor at St. Peter's High School and then as principal of St. Clement's School, both in Saratoga Springs, NY. In 1991, she was awarded the National Catholic Educational Association's Distinguished Principal Award in Boston, MA, the proud highlight of her career. During her tenure at St. Clement's, she improved the school's reputation and increased enrollment exponentially, leaving it financially and educationally sound. She is predeceased by her husband, John, and brother, Billy (William). She is survived by her sister Rita Ludden of Falls Church, VA, daughter Heidi and son-in-law Ken of Oneonta, son John and daughter-in-law Adria of Ballston Spa, grandchildren Aliya, Damien and Vincent and many devoted nieces and nephews. She was a communicant, Eucharistic Minister and member of the choir at St. Mary's Church in Ballston Spa. The joys of her life were the beauty and power of music, all children with whom she worked and her loving family. She was known for her boundless compassion and unconditional love for all. Services will be on Monday, July 6, 2015 at 12:15 pm at Mevec Funeral Home, 224 Milton Avenue, Ballston Spa. Committal service will follow at Gerald B.H. Solomon-Saratoga National Cemetery.
