Obituary of Leona H. Schiavo

Ballston Spa, NY Leona H. Schiavo 84 Leona died at Ellis Hospital on Sunday, October 26, 2014. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed. Leona was born in Albany, NY on July 27, 1930. She was the daughter of the late William H. and Alice E. O'Hare Johnson. Leona was a 1948 graduate of Albany High School. She met her husband of 62 years, Patsy, when both worked at General Electric Company in Schenectady. In addition to her secretarial work at GE, Leona worked as a secretary for the Ballston Spa Central School District, retiring in 1986. She was an engaged member of the community, working as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and at Ellis Hospital. Leona worked as Assistant Tax Collector for the Town of Ballston and was an active member of the Ballston Spa Central School Secretaries Group and Ballston Area Senior Citizens. Her hobbies included bowling, traveling and attending sporting events and the theatre. She especially enjoyed attending Ballston Spa High School basketball and football games with her husband and traveling to watch her grandchildren's athletic and school events. She was predeceased by her son Patrick Schiavo who died in 1993, and her brothers William, Walter and Ronald Johnson. Survivors include her husband, Patsy Schiavo, her daughter, Deborah Schiavo, of Pelham Manor, New York; her son, Michael (Analida) Schiavo of Westford, Massachusetts; her brothers, Robert and Myron Johnson, and her four grandchildren: Connor Brown and Taylor Brown; Michael Schiavo and Daniel Schiavo; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, at 8:30 am at Mevec Funeral Home, 224 Milton Avenue, Ballston Spa, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am at St. Mary's Church, 167 Milton Avenue. Committal service will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday, October 28 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM at Mevec Funeral Home.
